Once dirt becomes embedded in the rug
There are rug owners and there are rug lovers. Rug owners have a few nice rugs
in their living rooms, maybe one in the dining room, and by the front door. Rug
lovers have rugs in every room of their house. These are not just any rugs;
these are rugs that you notice as soon as you enter the room. They are like
works of art.
They also have rugs in front of all the exterior doors, the
bedroom, the kitchen, and even the bathroom is covered. If you are a rug lover,
you want to know how to care for your rugs and this includes how to clean them
properly so that they will last and continue to make your home look fantastic.
Dirt Damages Rug FibersRugs take a lot of abuse. This is especially true of rugs
that are in high traffic areas. Dirt, especially fine grain dirt like sand, can
get deep inside the carpet's fibers and eventually do damage when we walk on the
rug. Other dirt, like oils, cooking grease, cigarette residue, dust, and pet
hair can have an adverse affect on the appearance of the rugs in our homes. Rug
lovers cringe at the thought of our beautiful rugs not looking or feeling the
way they should. The rug that is never cleaned is the rug whose lifespan is
shortened. Once dirt becomes embedded in the rug, it acts like a magnet, drawing
more dirt into convex
mirror the rug. When your rugs start losing their look, their colors fading,
their very fibers beginning to wear away, it is almost too late.
Clean your
carpets and do the things that need to be done to restore your rugs. Rug Pads
Prolong Rug LifeThe first step in proper care of your rugs is preventative.
Having a rug pad underneath your rugs will go a long way to extending the life
of your rug Rugs with proper pads do not wear out as quickly. Pads keep your
rugs in place so that they do not roll up, slip and slide, or become folded and
creased. In addition to these benefits, rug pad make your rugs much more
comfortable to walk on and do not allow dirt and grime to enter where the rug is
most vulnerable, the bottom. Airing Out Rugs Helps Decrease OdorTo prevent sand
or tiny rocks from grinding into the fibers of your rug and doing irreparable
damage, you should vacuum your rugs at least once per week and more often if
there is suddenly a lot of foot traffic. Some rugs like small shag or other long
fiber rugs should be shaken out vigorously. You can hang your rug on the
clothesline in fresh air to allow the cooking or other household odors to air
out. Also hang large rugs out and gently beat the back of the rug with the
handle of a broom to loosen and dislodge embedded dirt. Vacuum Rotors May Damage
Some RugsRugs in high traffic areas should be vacuumed more often. There are two
schools of thought as to running a vacuum over the rug or using the hose
attachment. Either way should be okay but the rotors could do damage to delicate
rugs so it is best to just use the hose and attachments on your rugs.Sunlight Is
A Rug KillerSunlight is your rugs worst enemies. A rug that is submitted to the
same streak of sunlight every day for years will fade out.
It is recommended
that you rotate your rugs as you rotate your tires. Spin your rugs 180 degrees
every month or so to make sure it does no fade due to exposure to the sun. If
your rug has a design that only works in one direction, consider getting two and
trade them out.
